The Challenge
The Engineer, Urban Systems, recommended a new sanitary sewer septic tank for containment and storage before treatment. The remote site location demanded a lightweight solution; however, the design also needed to take into consideration potential flotation due to the local high-water table and tidal
The Solution
DuroMaxx SRPE Pipe was selected for the project. Its steel-reinforced polyethylene construction provided the necessary structural integrity of the sanitary storage tank while weighing less than alternative materials. This allowed for easy shipment of the pipes by barge to the remote job site. Twin sanitary storage tanks were constructed from 2,100mm (84in) diameter pipe. Two 6.706m (22ft) lengths were joined to build each 13.411m (44ft) long tank. Bulkheads and twin access risers were factory-installed. Connection and components were field welded by Titan Environmental Containment and tested to ensure the structure was completely watertight. The tanks were anchored by steel strapping
and concrete lock blocks to prevent possible flotation due to the high water table at the site. The project was completed in July 2023. The sanitary storage tanks now collect overflow and prevent the discharge of untreated waste into the nearby ocean and waterways.
